96 850 radio swap.

yes, you are partly right rspi, it is the cassette only deck, but mine also had the cd changer under the passenger seat. I had not seen the cable before, since it wasn't attached/used with the plug and play harness that I had (meaning, the harness plugs in to the existing wiring on my 850 and plugs straight in to back of Kenwood system)
again, I have no power whatsoever and it was working about a year or so ago when it was on there.

any way to check it out and see if it's the radio...or what can I check for. the fuses, regarding the radio and such, as good...

Again, I don't think it's worth it but it's your deal.

If you know the harness was not hacked up the radio is bad. I have had about 20 of them opened up and have never seen a fuse in them. Also, the chances of the CD changer actually working is less than 5%.

If ANYONE has a working CD changer in their 850 please chime in.

Oh, one more thing... The sound quality difference between aSC-816 vs that SC-71X is like night and day. Do yourself a favor and get a newer deck.

Rob -- I've got a spare SC-815 I'll send you -- radio, tape deck and CD player -- for actual postage cost. Through the good graces of a forum patriarch I received a replacement radio with working CD player. The CD player on the SC-815 is shot, but If you don't want it for CDs, the radio and tape deck work fine (at least I think the tape deck is OK, it has been so long since I have tried a tape in it. It came from a 1996 850 and has the radio code written on the top in black magic marker. PM me your address and I'm happy to shoot it your way for the shipping costs.

I guess that radio worked out for you, you never got back to me.
It was a shot. I had no idea whether the CD player was good or not
