Dashboard reading of outside temperature incorrect

Post by bobsnow100 »

I own a 2001 v70 xc awd, My problem is that the outside temperature reading that is on display in my dash is way off, It might be 40 degrees (f) outside and it is saying it is 5 degrees (f). It is totally wrong all the time.

More likely to be the temp sensor which will be mounted somewhere behind the front bumper. I won't commit myself to its exact location. I know where it is on the 850 as I have just replaced it for the same problem.

Just looked this up in VADIS...the outside temp. to the instrument panel read out comes from a sensor in the RIGHT Door mirror housing. Within the PDM (passenger door module) will have to have a software upgrade if the temp sensor is replaced due to a defect or breakage. From the PDM a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) can be read with VIDA for outside temp. functionality and reset as well as taking new downloads. This is not to be confused with the sensor that reads if there is any frost and allows the heaters in the mirrors to come on.

So in these cars the outside temperature sensor is in the airdam like it is on 850's and my S70.

By the way, there is also a temp. sensor in the drivers (left) side door mirror housing which gives the ECM ambient temperature information but does not send the temp info to the instrument panel. Very strange indeed.
