V70 Rear Wiper Arm issue

Post by peacock »

My car was recently vandalized/criminal mischiefed on two separate occasions. THe first being some one ripped off the rear wiper arm as seen here

. I got in the new wiper arm and did the quick change out only to find that the arm would make it about half way around the path of travel and then just conk out. With some hand assistance the arm would complete its cycle. The stud itself travels fine when not attached to the arm however the whole transmission mechanism seems to rock back and forth now.
I should also be noted that there is a crack on the plastic collar around where the stud protrudes from the rear glass.
Any help is greatly appreciated

It seems possible that the vandels have actually wrenched the wiper in the direction of it's travel as well as attempting to yank it off, thus damaging / stripping the wiper motor internal mechanism.
Whilst still working without the arm attached, the extra load when dragging the arm across the screen is perhaps too much for the damaged mechanism.
Maybe you can locate a salvaged wiper motor complete and substitute?

seems like a worthy solution short of the whole transmission mechanism. It was already making a clunk back and forth and it doesn't seem like a huge amount of travel but i hadn't thought it could really hurt the gears on the motor itself.

I think all of those plastic sleeves are split.

Classic call for a pick-and-pull replacement IMHO.

A part that is used rarely, and is easily tested for function before you walk out, if you do some homework on the wiring of the motor beforehand.

It mean it works with the arm off and not with it on so i imagine the mechanism is shot. worked before this incident
