on that string of codes - the first is a transmission sensor code and the rest are all O2 Sensor/Trim/ control codes. If the car is running rough it isnt usual to throw a book of codes at you with only one thing being wrong - maybe even as simple as a vacuum leak.

Evaluate EVAP system and hoses for holes etc.
I dont know the transmissions on these cars - but there were some bad years for the S80 and I think 2001 might have been one of them.

What state is the PCV in on the car, you mention the RMS has had to be changed this could have blown out due to excess crank pressure, burning oil (due to blocked PCV) will also create smoke out of the exhaust if totally blocked oil return port from the PCV - With the engine running how much smoke comes out of the dipstick if you pull it out - Mike

Upon removal of the RMS, it appears it wasn't blown it appears it just wasn't installed correctly unfortunately. However now that you mention it, where would I inspect the PVC system on this engine? It can't hurt to check it out.

The simple check is to pull the dipstick with the engine running, if it is puffing smoke/ steam then the PCV needs further investigation/ replacement - Mike

No puffy smoke. Seems like the PCV is fine.

Here is what we noticed. After clearing the trouble codes from the ECM. The codes that immediately return are:

P0056
P0156

followed by the car beginning to run rough and set off other codes. I tested the car running, and whenever the codes would come on, I would clear the codes and the car immediately began to run better until the ECM realized the faulty again. This leads me to believe the issue is not with vacuum but rather with the O2 Sensors.

Any other suggestions as I'm searching?

Both codes are for Bank 2 Sensor 2 can you stream any live data using your OBD-II reader as looking at the raw voltage levels from the probe on the reader should confirm it is shot - Mike

You could swap the sensor 2 Bank 2 probe with the other post cat probe although that is a lot of messing about as they are far from easy to remove and could break in the process - If you do swap them over and the fault migrates then you have confirmation the probe is shot - Mike
