painting body cladding on '01 XC70?

Post by WIvolvoXC »

My 2001 XC70 is silver with this really faded plastic molding on the bottom. I have no idea what color it was orginially, now it's a faded light blue? Could have been black when it left the factory, maybe someone here can fill me in on the different molding colors offered when my car was new.

Anyway, I think it would look better if I could paint it black. Problem is, I have no idea if it can be painted, and if so, what to use. Has anyone here done this before? Thanks!

I believe it should be a black color. I have an 04 XC70 and the plastic is also faded to a dark blue color. An acquaintance of mine who does detailing work gave something to rub onto the plastic and restores it back to a very nice black. I do have to reapply after a couple washing though. The bottle doesn't have a name on it. He probably buys it in large supply directly from the maker. I would suggest having something similar from an auto parts store and see if that works for you. My brother in law recommends forever black.
