Dear forum users,
My V40 is automatic and model year 2000 with about 80k miles on it. It was serviced for the timing belt and both front/rear brake discs changes a half year ago.
From a few weeks ago, I've recognized that a buzz and clicking sound comes out whenever I push the accelerator at around 40 miles. The sound seems to occur beneath the driver side floor near the engin. I even felt a small vibration on the floor and accelerator pedal. The sound goes away if I release the accelerator and comes again when I push it down. Also, it becomes calm if the speed goes over 50 miles. The noise comes always when running. When the engine is idle, there's no noise like that even with high rpm.
After searching some website, I found that it might be due to wear or loosening in the differential gear or transmission gear box. Then, I guess it would cost a lot.
After reading the posts here, I'm afraid that it would be hard to find where to fix if strange noises come and may cost arms and legs. Any advice from you will be very mucch appreciated.
Thanks for reading a long question.

Welcome to the site.
I have found on most of my Volvos that I can get annoying buzzes and other noises from the heat shields which are placed between the exhaust system and the floor of the car. These noises have usually come on and gone off at certain speeds and engine revs. I can't remember one coming on at idle speed.
There will probably be a heat shield near the point you are describing. Check them all for tightness and clearance from the exhaust system.
Car noises can travel through the metal and appear to be in a place often far removed from where they occur.
Bill.
