V50 "Gear Selector Service" message
V50 "Gear Selector Service" message
I have a 2006 V50 with 100,226 miles. Earlier today I was driving and noticed a dash message that read "Gear Selector Service Required." There was no difference in how my car was riding. I finished up my errand and started to return home. While on my errand I turned my car off. When I re-started my car, the message wasn't there and did not reappear. Do I need to worry about this message or is it just a 100K thing that needs to be checked out the next time my car is serviced? Thanks.

The gear position sensor is integral with the transmission control module (computer) and sits on top og your transmission. The gear selector shaft the gear lever moves passes through it. The gear pos sensor is how the TCM knows what gear you have selected.
That codes is set when the gear pos sensor part is not being registered correctly. Maybe it will not come back but if it does it will mean new TCM. The sensor would not have decided after 100K miles to need an adjustment. If for some reason repairs were done just prior to this where the TCM could have been tampered with then it could be only an adjustment. Since you didn't mention any repairs I assumed none were made before this happened.
