Oil change in 2009 XC70...48,000 miles. Until now, the Dealer did the changes (as I just bought the car last year)...now, it's my turn. Done tons of changes in my life...but don't want any snags on this one. Filter- Do I get a 36mm socket for the filter cover? Is this the recommended method?
I will be changing to synthetic (M-1), as this is what I use in my other cars. What weight is recommended for the 2009 XC70? It is summer in NY... I have 5-30w in the garage, but I think it's too thin for this time of year.
How often are you all changing oil and filter? Thoughts?
Oil Change questions
It's a 36mm socket for the oil filter. Once off it looks like this (see part number as well for ordering):

You can see the shallow 36mm socket. My filters come with a new sealing ring for the filter housing, and also a new crush washer for the sump plug
The sump drain is 17mm.
When you Refill the oil, I suggest you fill with 5 litres initially, and then check the dipstick. Mine was just above the “Min” line on the dipstick with 5 litres. Then fill until it’s at least halfway up the dipstick - probably another half litre.
If yours has the sticker on the bulkhead, son't fill over half-way up the dipstick...
I change my oil every 10,000 miles.
