After you replace, fix, the fuel pump relay so the engine runs, consider that the ABS module needs to be repaired. The speed signal goes through the ABS module and if that fails, your car's computers will not know what speed you are driving at and that generates all kinds of errors, plus the ABS and TRKS will be on. The lack of a speed signal will also mess up the transmission computer and give you a flashing light and limp home mode (default is 3rd gear all of the time, which you can override by shifting to L when driving off from a stop light or stop sign).
Some refurbished ABS modules are less than $100, Google for an outfit that is close to you. This person is in California and very trustworthy, read his synopsis regarding the 1999 model: http://www.rochatek.com/absmain.html

Long time contributor Matty-Moo runs MIDWEST ABS whom I used earlier this year on my 1999 ABS module and unreservedly recommend as well..

Went to AutoZone. The following are codes that it read (note: the store manager couldn't find "Volvo" codes so he went with "VW" codes. Does that make sense to you? Hopefully so.
PO238 *Turbo/Super charger boost sensor "A" circuit high. Open or short circuit condition.
(1-Poor electrical connection. 2-Faulty boost sensor).
PO442 *EVAP system small leak detected. Loose, defective or missing fuel cap.
(1-Faulty vent solenoid. 2-Faulty purge control solenoid. 3-Faulty fuel tank pressure sensor).
P1633 *Accelerator pedal position sensor 2 signal too low.
(1-Poor electrical connection. 2-Failed accelerator pedal position sensor).
P1618 *Glow plug issue. (This one doesn't make sense to me since it's not a diesel engine).
There you have it folks.
Thanks in advance,
Amy

While the error code numbers might be correct, the explanation is wrong. Like the P1618 is a tranny generated code to tell the engine computer to turn on the CEL.
First is to get a repaired ABS module?

Their scanner is giving goofy definitions.1Wagon wrote:Went to AutoZone. The following are codes that it read (note: the store manager couldn't find "Volvo" codes so he went with "VW" codes. Does that make sense to you? Hopefully so.

p1633 is vehicle speed sensor signal. That's from the ABS.
p1618 is a comm error between the tcu and ecu...also from the abs.
You almost always get those two together.
The evap code is for an evap system leak. they'll try to sell you a gas cap, but that usually isn't it on one of these.
p0238...the last and only time I had that was with a leaky intercooler hose.
Get yourself an ms300 scanner from Amazon, use the MVS affiliate link at the top of the page to get it. They're now down to $15 and you can skip the retail monkeys at Autozone.

Too funny. Kind of like using a French dictionary to translate German.Went to AutoZone. The following are codes that it read (note: the store manager couldn't find "Volvo" codes so he went with "VW" codes. Does that make sense to you? Hopefully so.
If you put P 0123 Volvo into google you will find a link which discusses the right code
Rebuilt ABS unit will clear that AbS light and the trans code error
The evap code will be a hose or perhaps purge valve problem, but that's minor or now.
Did we confirm you have a turbo car? Aha !!!! I see GLT in your sig, so turn confirmed

So now what?
Check hoses for loose connections/leak?
Replace ABS? (Is that something I can replace with little know how? I replaced the MAF with the help of the forum, easy I know. If it's as simple as that I could give it a try).
Skip replacing fuel pump relay fuse when it arrives?

Yep, you can do the ABS module yourself. Matty sends the socket with an exchange unit so you don't even have your car off the road waiting for a rebuild.
That should fix your ABS light and probably your trans light and arrow.
I would put the new relay in. Over 200k n car, it's due.
Lets see how it runs after that.
