1994 Volvo 850 Turbo PCV Replacement

That's quite bad - I've never seen one smoke that much.

Yeah, I think a larger hose to the oil trap/turbo is in order. Perhaps a larger vacuum draw for when at idle as well would help while you're in there.

2 choices there: 1) drill a slightly larger hole in the PTC valve, or "T" off the vacuum port from the PTC and run another line to the vacuum tree to provide extra vacuum (though that may create a significant vacuum leak if that starts leaking). I think the intake manifold port was added in the later years to provide more direct vacuum at idle.

One big problem, I don't have any more ports on my vacuum tree.

What do you think about that extra port next to the PTC valve that's capped off? We had spoke about it earlier in the thread, Do you think that would help if I ran a line from there to the vacuum tree?

As far as not having another opening on the vacuum tree, what do you think I can do about that?

I think enlarging the hole is the better option. That engine seems to have a LOT of blowby, more than that small vacuum hose can suck back into the motor.

You could probably pick up a PTC at a junkyard just to experiment around with.

I can't remember what that other hose is for, but it's not close enough to the entrance from the larger PCV system hose to do anything from there.

I'll go to the junk yard tomorrow, what size bit do you think I should I run through the PTC? As far as hose, what size diameter should I attempt to run?

Also, what can I use to get the bigger hose to fit securely on the vacuum tree nipple (some type of adapter elbow)?

If you are going to the junk yard I think that most of your problem can be solved if you buy a replacement intake manifold with the nipple on the end. Toss all of the bolts in your tool bag while you are taking it.

My Pick N Pull has a flat rate of $25.00 for an intake manifold.

Agree! Pick up a PTC as well, just in case you need to experiment.

You can buy a simple T adapter and put it in one vacuum line to create a new vacuum attach point, of course. Buy a straight coupler too, in case you need to diagnose a vacuum leak as well.

yea i dunno if any1 told you yet but that hose that connects to the side of the manifold it doesn't go anywhere on this car as you see it has been blocked off, this kit is for later year models to and the later year models had the port on the side i'm sure you know this by now but don't connect either end of this plastic vacuum hose in just take it out if u want to actually. and the metal line is to heat up all the gases to further dispose of them, so i heard anyways. other then that did you check the ptc nipple? sorry i'll have to read this whole thread i just don't have enough time right now ill fix my post accordingly. Thats the correct kit. Basically theres 2 hoses wrapped in foam right..... 1 that is a vacuum plastic line with rubber attachments. this is garbage to you.Take it off, throw it out, or leave it disconnected. The fpr... I no the yellow line goes to the outside facing the front of the engine to the vac tree and behind it i think it goes to the manifold under the tree not sure tho. but you shouldn't have your vac tree full you got too many connections. both sides of that plastic hose need to be disconnected and u need to cap of that hole on the fresh air pipe. let me know what is going on i am very interested as i have the same car and can just go outside and take a video for you on anything you may need to no.
