Aftermarket Steering Wheel

Post by Reys »

Hey guys,

I've been getting ideas of swapping my Volvo 850 turbo steering wheel with an aftermarket one, I've owned 3 850s and always preferred the stock wheel until yesterday... I test drove an 87 supra turbo with a grant gt wood grain wheel on it, very nice feel. I've located one locally for $125. My question for the forum is.. has anyone changed out their wheel? what problems did you encounter? how easy is it with what adapters & what did you end up doing with the airbag situation?

,Thanks

My suggestion would be going to Volvo Performance sites to determine if there are alternatives to the wheel you have in the picture ! I do believe the safety, having air bags, will determine if the SRS system , if you have one, will allow the steering wheel air bag to be disconnected or "bypassed" for the sake of sport wheel ! Wish you well in your search !!

thanks nonturbo I've decided not to change the wheel after finding out not having an airbag is illegal & can cause me problems down the road, a wise decision i think.
