Holy Cow! $31,412.00 in repairs over 10 years! This is good?

I guess its the way it is with everything, the money is in labor and over pricing parts. My neighbor just got a brake job for his Porsche Cayenne to the tune of $9 grand (ouch) I sold my 911 many years ago cause I could not trust the mechanics working them, it was $1,000 just for leaving the car there..

One of the better reasons for the information this forum provides is actually to avoid getting severly overcharged, ripped off, or scammed. Theres a lot of power in knowledge.

I like it here because I like learning, knowing about things, in this case volvos, one of my best friends is a certified wrench (benz, bmw, gm, etc) and he works on my car for free, but still, I ask for help and guidance, he needs to make money for his work, not screw around with my car.
I work on bikes day in and day out, but cars (newer) are a different deal.

I bought my 04 xc70 almost a year ago @ 122k Us miles. at 128 the tranny gave out and I spent 3800 Dollars on that, i consider that a steal for a rebuild on a complicated car. Parts and labor. It needs timing belt and PCV system. around 600 dollars doing it myself. So all in all its the value of the car seeing its worth 5500. Its a nice car though so the work is worth it i think. nicest car iv'e ever owned, way better than my 09 Malibu which was nearly maxed out in options.

Missing info here is how much this car was being used.

If it is driven 20,000 per year, that's about 10 cpm for maintenance, high but not ridiculous.

The guy we bought my fathers 850R from spent $28,051.62 on it from 2006-2012.
118,000 miles in 76 months =$369 / month on maintenance costs.

All volvo dealer repairs.
