2006 XC90 Temp Gauge low and check eng. light on

2006 XC90 Temp Gauge low and check eng. light on

Hi. 2006 XC90 119,000 miles. Check engine light came on and the Temp Gauge started showing below the middle...has been as low as the 1/4 point. Thoughts??

The thermostat may have jammed open; not a good outcome as computer will add more fuel. Also the coolant temp sensor may have failed giving the same result.
