Looking for a Volvo 850 2.3 motor - Dallas trip...

Post by rspi »

I'm planning a trip to Dallas to make my last effort to get a motor for this R sedan. A buddy want to buy it but it does need a motor.

Anyone have any idea of what my odds are of finding a good motor in the Dallas area? I know they have a few Pick-N-Pull junk yards there, just hoping that I have a better chance there.

Been a long time since I've been in Dallas, but give these guys a call: http://www.southwestauto.com/ -- I've sourced RWD stuff from them including a tranny and a B230FT. Looks like they've morphed into more of a service shop, they used to do a lot of used parts, maybe they still do, but they've been in the brick business in Dallas for a long time. Used to be a straight-up Volvo/Saab shop. I'd bet they either have a 2.3 or could tell you what yards to check out. You could also likely call around to the yards and see if they've got a 94-98 T5 on the lot.

A lot of yards / used parts places also index their stuff on car-part.com, might be worth running a search there.

definitely check car-part. also, pick'n'pull's inventory checker now has links to a website with photographs of cars that go on their lot. the inventory checker on the p'n'p site is not very descriptive of trim levels, but if the car has been on the lot for more than a few days there's often a photo, which could make it easier to tell what you're looking at.

there's also the option of leaving comments on individual cars to be helpful to your fellow scavengers, but i doubt that anyone will ever use that.
