Radio ct 505 with diy aux for mp3 player?

Hi all,

On this forum, I read about soldering an aux cable on the circuit board of a car radio. I would like to do this with my volvo 940 CT 505, because I want to play music from my android telephone. Does anybody have experience with this?

From what I understand (but mmaybe I am mistaken), connecting the aux cable to the cd changer is difficult on most car radio's because additional electronics is necessary. Is this true for the CT 505 also? Is there any other option to achieve an aux, because my radio does not have a cassette player? For example, can I link it to the CD player (without loosing the possibility to play CD's?).

Why not consider fitting a Bluetooth kit for handsfree that is also capable of A2DP music streaming from your phone, I use an iO-Play_2 kit in my V70 and have installed the same kit in to mates S60 which also used an external to headunit amplifier, great kit and not too badly priced - Mike

Thanks for your reply. I don't get it, however. Such a bluetooth kit will still need access to the amplifier of the radio, to use the car's speakers, right? How is this possible without any aux?

Have a read of This Thread although that install was rather more complicated due to the car having a centre speaker, Dolby and external to headunit amplifier - For your own headunit you only need to plug in between the headunit and existing car wiring using a couple of SOT adapter leads to convert the Volvo connectors to DIN that the Bluetooth kit uses, or if you fancy hard wiring it simply cut the plugs and crimp all the connections.
The iO-Play_2 comes with its own 180W amplifier (4x45W) and uses that to play audio from the phone, plenty of power to drive the Volvo speakers, the switching between the headunit and BT is controlled by the iO unit - Mike
