This may be posted already, but I found out how to read the total mileage stored in the ECU on my '96 850R. The info is at the link,

You just need an ELM327 compatible OBDII reader ($20 and up on the 'net, I used a 'Scantool.net OBDLink SX') and a terminal emulator (like Hyperterm) for computer connection. I won't go into the details here, the link has it all. It worked for me -- the only trick I learned was to use a simple terminal emulator as the computer interface software (plus the driver for the OBDII reader); the graphical interface software which came with my device could not handle some of the commands needed to get to the COMBI ECU in the '96. I checked it on my '96 Turbo which has had a working odometer and the data was right. My 850R which has had a broken odometer since I got it output 155,XXX miles which also seems about right. So now I can go ahead fix my odometer and run it to the right miles. I can't seem to find an address to send a thank-you note to jonesrh -- if he reads this, thanks!

thrich,
You're welcome. And thanks for the feedback. Reading between the lines, I'm guessing that your '96 Turbo's ECU 51 B90300 response gave a reading which jives with that car's working odometer.
Q1. Do I understand correctly? The reason I ask is noone has given me direct feedback yet that B90300 corresponds to a known, for certain, vehicle mileage. And there has been precious little use of the Volvo 850 keyword D3 B0 protocol interpreter, so I haven't been able to infer what more of the COMBI data is. There's been only 2 people (besides me) that have fed both the B90300 and B90400 data to the interpreter. Their B90400 data lagged their B90300 data by 2000-6000, so I'm presuming my original guess that B90400 is the Mileage at Last Service Light Reset and B90300 is the Vehicle Mileage is correct and that they had recently done the Service Light Reset.
Q2. Have you been the sole owner of that '96 Turbo or otherwise are very certain of the mileage?
Q3. Have either of your cars ever had their ABS module go bad for longer than 1 month? If so, will you read the B90A00 value on such an affected car and feed that to the interpreter along with a note of how long the ABS was bad on that car? I'd like to know if the B90A00 is a rough estimate of how much the mileage might be off, and if so, is it Engine Hours based or Calender Time based.
As far as mailing addresses go... Most sites have default e-mail addresses beginning with "info" or "webmaster". That'll work on my domain. Or you can use "volvo850" at the domain of the interpreter.

“The Volvo Guys” in Toronto, Ontario, can alleviate this meticulous and arduous process same day. They use a high speed gear with the highest quality and hardest material that will simply never break again, by far better than the original. Sure beats ruining an expensive cluster. They do great work, amazing guys.
