Hard Hard Start

Post by Fd »

Major problems starting but only in colder weather, like now. In warm weather, it is fine. Car cranks and cranks, finally begins to show signs of wanting to start, and then finally starts. Once running, it seems to be fine, but then at intersections after stopping, it runs fine while stopped, but when I step on it, it dies out and stalls. Always starts fine again, but this is annoying, and dangerous. Mechanic can't find anything wrong, no codes showing up.
Does anyone have any experience with this? This problem was with us last winter too, and went away in the warmer weather, and is now back.

I love this car, probably the best one I ever owned.
Thanks in advance for your responses !

When this occurs is the engine still cold or at normal temperature or does it happen throughout the temperature range?

Once the car starts, it's usually good all day, except at lights or stop signs. It runs fine when I stop, while I'm stopped, but dies out after I step on it to get going. It doesn't do this in warm temperatures, but when cooler temperatures arrive, it seems to happen. It isn't freezing here yet, it hasn't gotten that cold, 40's to 50's .

It didn't give me as much grief this morning, but then, it wasn't terribly cold last night.

Thanks
Fd.

The poor cold starting could be a faulty start injector/valve or its associated components. However, that would not account for the problem when stopping at lights which is really straining my thought processes.

Are you noticing any increase in the fuel consumption or any drop in the performance under normal running conditions?

Check fuel pressure you may have a fault fuel pressure regulator. Also check coolant temp sender for ecu and intake air temp sender (if your car has one) No cold start injector on this year. If fuel pump check valve is bad takes a little while to pump up. You can check for this when you put fuel pressure gage on.

Hi,
I never noticed a drop in performance or in mileage. It's running well while running !

I should say that when it stalls at lights, it starts right back up again without issue, and if I stop for a couple of hours, it starts right up, it just seems to be difficult to start after it's been sitting in the cold for overnight, or all day long. Strange !
