Greetings Forum Members,
I recently installed a recycled (used part) fuel pump into my 03 S80. It wasn't as difficult as I thought and I attached a photo of my fabricated snap ring removal tool, which is a 4" coupling (brought it from Lowe's). Now to my problem, after the installation the car started after a few cranks but the fuel gauge didn't move. The tank has about 3/4 of fuel in it so lack of gas can be excluded. When a recycled/new fuel pump is installed, does the car need new software download or could the float be in a bad position/and or damaged? Keep in mind all I changed was the pump, the remainder of the pump assembly and the left side fuel gauge sensor remained in place. Thanks for any help

Greetings Mark27,
First and foremost, your fabricated tool is absolutely brilliant......NICE JOB! Call your local VOLVO dealer. The service departments at some dealerships will provide a 1/2 diagnosis AT NO CHARGE. I suspect the SENDING UNIT needs to be HOMED so that it can provide accurate info to your car's computer. Sounds like you have the matter well in hand and the solution is not far away. I look forward to your follow-up.
