Okay Nurse Amy - you are granted immunity from grammar rules due to duress (I didnt even see your typos honestly)

Could you perhaps get a 12 VDC jumppack and try jumping it from that? Not a bad thing to have in the trunk anyhow. You might have a bad battery cable or ground but It is almost certainly a bad battery or wire over a bad starter so I think that will get you going again.

I am back in business. I ended up calling my go to tow company. I explained I didn't want to be towed, jumped, etc. All I wanted was the delivery of a brand new battery to my home. Plain and simple. I paid for convenience, yes, but the time it would have taken to get a jump and wait in line for a battery at Sears all day would have cost me more. The battery did test out to be bad, replaced with a bigger one of some kind, and I was off to work within an hour....and almost ran out of gas!! What a Monday. Bring it on.

So now that the car has been idling without stalling, etc. is it safe to say to order a new MAF? Are we talking about the actual MAF or the sensor to the MAF? (PS when pulling the sensor off, the little clip you pinch to pull it out was stuck pretty good...I wiggle and pulled and a piece broke off and flew in the air somewhere...hopefully that still works.).

In the meantime, my brother called and wants to buy my Volvo back from me....his 2001 has given him too much grief and he misses the old 99. Tempting but not going to happen. I haven't given up hope yet.

Amy

I bought the MAF on iPD site just now (That went up in price by about $30 in three years). I want to replace and see what difference it makes, if any. Sure hope we are getting somewhere. I haven't done all that much to it thus far:

-replaced fuel pump relay fuse
-replaced ABS module
-new battery (unrelated)
-now replacing MAF when it arrives in a few days.

Bravo Zulu on the battery. I've had them last 7 years in the frigid NE and only 2 for cars that aren't used much, like Grandmas....go figure...

I think the 99 MAF comes with sensor and housing. The sensor is held into the housing with a security Torx screw that you probably don't have on your tool box..it has a pin in the middle that prevents you from using a regular Torx.

My MAF came in the housing so you have to work it out of the air cleaner, but since you have already impressed us with your ABS module replacement skills, that replacement will be, as a French colleague says "A slice of pie"

...the awesomeness of MVS .....you guessed it, ill link you to a MAF replacement thread ....

You might need a long zip tie to hold that electrical connector in place if one of the clips broke but you can put that on later. One clip will hold it for now.

Yes, you are correct, housing and sensor are all one MAF package. If need be, I will utilize some zip ties.
Car ran great today.
Thanks.

Hmmmm... I fixed a car, kept a little person happy, and manufactured a human being today. What did you get done??

I put some numbers into a spreadsheet. It was important. Really, it was.

Time to clear the codes and see what comes back. And tell your brother to keep his junker 2001, your 1999 is much better than his.

@Klaus,
Should I clear the codes now while I have the MAF unplugged and awaiting the new one? Or wait until the new one is installed?

*Yes, I told my brother no thanks, I plan to keep his old 99 he sold me 6 years ago. He misses it. He had to have a newer one (or I should say his wife) since the dashboard of the 99 creaked when going over railroad tracks. Sheesh! I swooped in not that deal and haven't looked back. Funny thing is I almost bought his 2001 a few years back. I took it for a test drive and it didn't handle nearly as well as mine, nor did it have the same pep my 99 has (getting on highways, passing cars, etc). It felt too "jalopy" and I passed on the purchase. I kid you not, a week later, the transmission went out and he dumped a ton of money into it and continues to give a lousy performance.

Pulling the MAF out of the turbo hose can require a good tug and wiggle back and forth. It was a lot easier using the " special Volvo tool" aka stiff cord per the link above.

I would let the codes sit until the new MAF comes and/or your copilot is back too.
