Why the smoke post-accident?

Fast forward to near the end to see the smoke when the driver opens her door.

My question: what would cause it? Airbags don't cause that much smoke. (They'd kill as many as they saved.)

If airbags fired- they are stored in the case with a powder similar to corn starch/talcum powder.

extremely less likely but possible -an AC line or heater core was damaged

Airbags create HUGE amounts of smoke. Combine that with seatbelt pretensioners and the amount of smoke is enormous. The smoke is not caustic but it is a bit of an irritant. I have exploded a few dozen airbags and even the cloud of smoke passing by gives you a cough like some of the degreaser sprays give you if you get a whiff of those.

The airbag filling process is effectively a combustion process.
