2004````XC70 DEM failure and removal

Post by amacbabe »

I was told about 3 years ago my DEM module had failed and it would need to be replaced if I wanted the all wheel drive.
I lived in Charleston South Carolin at the time and seemed foolish to get because we never had snow.
WE have sinced moved to Omaha, Nebraska where the weather can get pretty bad with snow.
Thje price they quoted me for a new DEM was around $2000.
It was too high for me and I started doing research regarding the DEM module.
I came across a company called Xemodex Inc out of Ontario Canada who indicated it can repair the module for around $400-$500. I thought is a much better price than the $2000.
So my quesation is is has anyone ever heard of Xemodex Inc and if so has anyone bought the DEM before and installed adn does it work properly?.
I can see where the DEM is located under my car and it seems like it is held in place by only 2 screws. When removing so I need to know about anything before unscrewing- Nothing will come flying out like spring or something like that- will there?
If someone can tell me how to remove I am supposed to send the DEM module off to Xemodex Inc and they can fix rather fast and send it back. Seems pretty simple I "think"
Please advise!
Thanks
Andrew

Xemodex is well known around these parts as a reputable company. That being said, it appears there are some other related components you may want to checkout before plunking down the $400.

In the USA I just found BBA Reman in Taunton MA who will repair most Volvo Haldex DEMS for $225 including shipping both ways and lifetime guarantee. That's substantially lower cost then XeMODeX who;s repair starts at $425 and increases depending on damage.
I found them on ebay where you can order online.
Ebay's tool reported not compatible with 2004 XC70 but their information in the listing confirmed they do repair DEMS for this car.
I plan to use them and will report.
