Get a good indy mechanic to check it out...even another Volvo dealer. Expect to pay up to about $100 for this, or if you're lucky, as low as about $60. Just make sure whoever does it really knows this car. Get them to not only tell you problem areas, but "weak" areas- in other words, areas that they see potential problems before 100K miles. With that info, I think you can make an informed decision about which warranty to get, if any. Sorry, but I don't know the specific, typical issues with the S60 as I don't own one. I was just speaking of things in general, if you know what I mean. Hopefully other S60 owners will jump in here and offer their suggestions and opinions concerning the car you bought and what's prone to fail, etc.
Anyway, congrats on your new Volvo!
P.S. Whatever you do, let me recommend a transmission flush (you'll need the special Volvo fluid or Mobil-3309 ATF- They're the same thing- Mobil is cheaper) in the very new future. You are near 60K miles and Volvo will inspect the fluid then but they will say that it doesn't need a flush. That's been the company line, but all of us who have owned Volvo's for any length of time know better. All of our Volvo tranny's are prone to issues (this isone thing I know about your car...) if the fluid isn't changed. Most recommend that it be changed for the first time by 40-50K miles depending on how the car is driven, and then every 30-40K miles after that. There is a write-up on the how-to in the Volvo Repair Database on this site. Just look under S/V70...this is the same process for your car too.
s60 VS. v40, which one is better for me

01's are VERY prone to tranny issues so make sure it shifts 100% and even then , have it flushed AND have a Volvo dealer download all the latest software, (there is some newer software)
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
Thanks again.
The car is close to 64k miles and it wasn't kept well based on my knowledge of the carfax report of this car because it shows the first and second car owners are commercial in florida and the third is individual, then the fourth is a wholeseller. When I saw the car first time, it looks awesome externally, but it is sort of dirty (just in my words) because the dash board was full of unknown dusts, the glove box and the cover of the storage box are broken, and there is a button which doesn't work. In addition, there are some taints on the leather seats which really made me uncomfortable. So I guess I need to do a 60k-mile maintennance for this car and check it, I also plan to do the clean-up for this car after I get it.
So do you have any idea about the charge for the maintenance, and clean-up? Are you familiar with MD, DC, and VA? shall I do all in a volvo dealer or any garage? I know volve is more creditable but also charge more, any recommendation and suggestion is welcomed.
Happy thanksgiving!
