2004 S80 car sways to the right and left.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

While driving, the car sways to the right when you hit a bump or when the trans. shifts to another gear from stop.

How about when you are cruising along on a smooth road and give it the gas - let off the gas - give it the gas - let off the gas? Does the car pitch one direction as a result of increasing the throttle and then pitch back the other way when you let up on the throttle?

What is your tire wear like? Does the car track straight down the road or pull to either direction when you take your hands of. On a long sweeper on a Interstate at a Highway exchange if the alignment is off the car will almost skip/slip sort of as it encounters a bump. If the alignment is spot it should hit a bump or dip but feel directionally secure as it bounce(s).

Could be one of or a combination of alignment, struts, tires, chassis components and even an engine mount but not necessarily in that order.

Blessings,

BKM

If the car yaws to one side under heavy throttle, then yaws back the other way when releasing the throttle, that can be an indication that the control arm bushings are shot. On a FWD car, when you give it the throttle, the wheels are trying pull forward which translates to increased tow-in if things aren't as snug as they should be. So if the control arms are sloppy, one or both wheels WILL tow in under throttle. If it pitches to the right under throttle, the left arm bushings are to blame (or at least they're WORSE than the RH side), and vice-versa. Generally if one arm's bushings are shot, the other arm isn't far behind so they would both be replaced at the same time.

You should be able to wedge a large screwdriver or pry bar between the control arm and chassis sub frame and see if you can induce very much movement in the arm. A very, very small amount of movement should be expected as they ARE rubber bushings, but any more than that is not good.
