Hello everyone....another 01' S80 with an issue.
We have a car my wife has owned since new. We love the car but are having an issue beyond my mechanical ability.
I recently changed the engine (Block had cracked) and after it was up and running we had the Christmas Tree dash so I put in a salvage ABS Controller. The dash went to normal but now the car is slow to start.
It cranks longer than it used to and if you get into the car, turn the key to run, turn it off then back to start it fires right off. So cycling the key "bypasses" the problem.
What is resetting or slow to reset that the second On position tells the ignition to fire?
Thanks!

I'd look at fuel delivery. Fuel filter, pressure... run some quality injector cleaner through her (car, not wife).

BTW, if the engine starts, it has spark. Spark means the spark plugs have current running across their electrodes.

The ignition and fuel systems are fine. The issue is that something in the car is not allowing the ignition to work on the initial crank. If you jump in and try to start the car it will just crank with no ignition. If you get in, cycle the key to run, turn it off then start it again, it will start right up.
Something isn't getting energized with the first key turn.
Thanks.
Ron

Have been working on a 2001 s80 t6 with your symptoms. This is what I found. Turning the key on will cause the fuel pump to run for 2 seconds. To get spark the fuel pressure at the fuel rail test port should be about 53psi. If your fuel check valve is not holding you may need to turn on the ignition switch 2 or 3 times to get the minimum pressure required for spark. You can easily verify if you have proper fuel pressure by connecting a test guage to the fuel rail.
