2008 XC90 Sport Brake Job Question

Post by walleye vision »

Quick question.

I'm going to attempt my first front brake job. Do I need to do anything with the brake lines/fluid reservoir when compressing the piston thingy with the C-clamp? All the tutorials I've read don't mention it specifically for the XC90, but have seen it mentioned in non-specific car brake job write ups. I hope that made sense.

Lube contact points of the "ears" of pads with high temp synthetic brake grease. Do one side at a time so you are assured of having a guide for the caliper anti-rattle spring if it puzzles you.
You need not worry about master cylinder unless the reservoir has been topped off after brake pads wore down. If level is closer to MIN then you're good. Otherwise it will flow over but you can wash it off with water right after you c clamp the caliper and you'll be fine. The slide bolts for caliper will have plastic caps over them. Use c clamp on the old pad to push pistons fully back before you pry out the old pad. It will will have a 3 point claw spring holding the pad to piston
