2001 V70 T5 front door lock removal

Post by quitequick »

Both front door locks refuse to stay locked when the remote is pressed. The drivers door failed first followed by the passengers side a year or so later. When the remote is pressed to lock, the button indicator on the door does go down but then immediately pops back up again. So I have to lock the door manually by pressing down the button and closing the door.

So I am trying to remove the door lock to either fix it or replace it. I have removed the door card and peeled back the stuck on foam rubber sheet. I unscrewed the 3 torx screws holding the lock to the door so its loose. But the lock is behind the window track/guide which is riveted to the door. This guide appears to capture the lock leaving no room to remove it.

I'm obviously missing a step. Any ideas?

Are you sure this is a mechanical problem? Have you thought about it could be an electrical problem with the wires being cut or damaged somewhere at the door hinges?

No I'm not sure its mechanical. But since the remote did activate the lock, I assumed the electrics must be intact. Is that not a safe assumption?

Well, since you can manually lock and unlock the doors, my guess is the door locks are mechanically sound. When you use the remote, the doors reacts but the logic was wrong. This to me is an electrical problem. I would check the wires first before touch the door locks. The wires going through the same hole along with the hinge on any of the doors could have been damaged. This is a common problem. I would check them all out.
