Every since U-Haul rented trailer to me that had a short in the wiring, I've been having problems starting the car.
I usually get the typical thing when a selenoid is going out, the rapid clicking, but the battery doesn't die, if I keep trying eventually (20-30 seconds of short bursts), the starter will start to engage, turn over the motor once or twice, and eventually it'll start.
Also - after this happens, the power door locks don't work, the sunroof won't operate, and the courtesy lights won't come on with the overhead switch (though they light up when you open the door). Typical I hear, of a drained or disconnected battery.
I disconnected the battery, checked it's terminals, they both are clean, no corrosion, I still polished them up a bit and re-connected with no improvement.
I checked the terminal from the battery in the engine compartment - also clean, and a good contact.
I did hook up a meter to the battery while I had it disconnected, once the dome lights turn off after connecting it, it's drawing about 0.8 amps. Prior to the lights going off, it's around 3.8 amps. That seems really high for a couple of lights, but I know the car is doing a few thing behind the scenes once the battery is first re-connected, so 0.8 amps seems to be the current drawn once everything settles, as if I parked and walked away from the car.
While I had the battery disconnected, I pulled the fuses in the rear, one by one, and none of them affected the current draw. I didn't have a helper to pull the front fuses and see which circuit is causing the drain.
