94, 850 turbo, can not start

Post by erbo »

The car (110,000mile) ran ok the day before (rain day, gas refilled). However, next day, the car can not be started. The battery is strong. Shortcut fuel pump relay does not help. What is the problem? Please help me out.

Is engine turning over since u say battery strong.

As u said rainy day the day before, possibly main harness or ECU shorted by water.

Dirty engine = dirt=carbon plus oil = good conductor of electricity. a lot of dirt like ash conducts electricity.

did u hear a firing sound and then dying away or nothing at all?

If engine running and then off and then does not start on a rainy day = electrical short. Happened to me before WD40 all over the place solved the problem.

This same thing happened to me with my 1994 850 turbo wagon. The problem turned out to be a faulty cam shaft angle sensor.

Use a timing light to determine if you have a spark in the ignition. If you see the light working(flashing) when cranking the car, system should be ok. Could be gas pump. Mines went at 73 k miles.

Good luck,

Change the pump. 850 seem to have this problem.
