My mechanic told me this job is a 8 hr book labor rate repair. Does this sound correct?? I understand cams & timing belt have to be removed. Is this job straight forward & easy enough for a novice to try? I would need to search for 'how to' remove cam shafts, but I would think that info would be here somewhere. Mine is leaking around the bolts in the cover. I sa w post where a person removed 7 mm bolts, drilled out the holes & replaced w/ 8 mm. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. 155,k on car & engine purrs sweet. I need to watch my money so I don't invest more than the car is worth & thats w/ a deep Volvo love! Thanks,
Steve

I just did this yesterday and now my valves ar ticking can someone help me also. I replaced the valve sealant due to a leak
Are you sure it is the valves ticking? Sometimes the fuel injectors are to blame for the noise.
Also, maybe some air got into the lifters, and it can take some time to rid itself. Were they removed from the engine for awhile? If so were they stored in an oil pool?
But the bad side is, maybe the sealant/glue stopped up one of the oil holes that feeds a lifter or a cam bearing surface.
Did you use the Volvo part# for the sealant/glue?
