2003 S40 Transmission or parking pawl.

Post by moleculartrout »

Hello, i'm very new on here and hope this isn't a stupid question. A few days ago I was driving home from work, about 25 miles at highway speeds. When I turned into my neighborhood my car suddenly slowed to a stop and when I put it in park the engine made a horrible sound. I tried to put it in drive again so I could get home and my car wouldn't move. I placed it back in park and the noise happened again, and the car began to roll backwards even though it was in park. My recent repairs include left front CV axle replacement and a new left wheel hub ( in July of 2013) . My car gave no indication that it was having trouble. I'm not sure what is wrong and don't trust most mechaincs to be honest with me. I was told it may be the transmission. I checked the fluid, it did not smell burned but was not red, and my car seems to shift fine. What thoughts do you all have.

Your left axle slipped out an inch or so. The clip didn't catch when you installed it.

Just got it back from the shop and you were correct. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that. You did put my mind at ease though, thank you.
