1996 850 Turbo Engine Swap Questions

Post by eddye »

I bought a 1994 engine and 97 transmission to replace the engine and trans in my 1996. My questions are these:

I noticed the 94 engine has EGR and the 96 does not. Do I have to switch over intake and exhaust manifolds, or can I just put the 94 in the 96 chassis and not worry about it?

Will I need to swap the harness over from the 96? There are only one or two different connections-- just about everything is exactly the same. I will be using my 96 ECU.

Thanks!

Just drop in the motor. The EGR stuff is not actually connected to the motor. I just did the same thing a few months ago.

The tranny's are different so hopefully you don't have to swap them.

There is a GOOD chance that the PCV oil trap box is a different size. You need to check the SN on the motor to verify. (PN info in the first few minutes. I believe the SN break is around 330414). See the 6 minute mark in the video.

Thanks! I did put a new 1996 PCV system on and noticed that there is some different piping between the two.

the trans I got (97) is exactly the same externally as the one I am replacing. What is different about them?
