dash wiring problem

Post by chet »

hey guys

the lights behind my dash instruments stopped working today, so I took the dash out and replaced the bulbs. I put it back in, but the lights behind the right-hand side (clock / revs / temp) aren't working.

I also found 2 wires that I couldn't remember where they came from! One is purple with a white stripe, and the other is red with a white stripe. They both have black rectangular pins on the end. There are 2 rectangular pins on the back of the dash, maybe they go on there? In what order?

Maybe someone has a dash wiring diagram? I don't have the workshop manual...

thanks!
Andrew (Melbourne, Australia).

Hi,
It would help if you gave us information about what kind of car you have.

I do not have the dash wiring diagram for your 740 so this is just a guess, but usually the wite/red wire is coming from the ignition coil, (then it should be the same colour at the coil) and is used for the tach-meter reference value. Is the tach working?
If it is 2 insulated flat connections type AMP they should be somewhere in the middle. One use to be male and the other is female, so hopefully you can not connect them wrong.
