2005 XC70
2005 XC70
Husband and I bought a 2005 XC70...71K from a local dealer here in NY about 5 months ago. Bought it with a 'warranty', but the dealer will only look at the car for a 'fee'. They will only fix a part if the part, in their words, has 'failed'. In the past month or so, I feel a loss of snap to the car's acceleration. How do you know when the turbo is working? When I go uphill (slight uphills), I can see the rpm's dropping and when I accelerate, it feels like the engine is lugging along. On the flats, it just doesn't seem as peppy as when I first got it. Husband is not in the car that often, so he doesn't know (or care). I'm thinking turbo. How does the layperson check that it is working, and working properly. Or any other hints. PS. I changed the plugs two months ago (myself), and that did not change anything. I put a tank of very expensive Super-dooper Premium in, no change. I feel that if I know something, am more educated, then I can speak to the Dealer with some authority and not him treat me like a 'housewife'.

When you renewed the plugs, did you check and set the gaps to the specifications in the owner manual?
What is the air filter element like? Clean / dirty or overdue for replacement perhaps.
If you can access a code reader it might be worth checking to see what or any fault codes may be stored.
That may give some clues to your problems.

Very unlikely to be turbocharger.
There are several things it could be.
You do not mention a the check engine light or any service needed messages in the message center in instrument cluster so it is not misfiring.
You could have a hole in the tubing from turbocharger back to intake manifold or possibly a faulty MAF sensor. If the dealer is not a Volvo dealer then their ability to diagnose it properly is questionable.
If you have a Volvo independent garage with a good reputation then that would be the best place to get started repairing it. When they find what is wrong you should have an idea if it a faulty part that the dealer should warrant.
