Transmission Issue only when stopping (2000 s70)

Post by drexel »

I've recently noticed the transmission has difficulty downshiftin to a stop, mainly the last shift - which i'm guessing would be from 1st to nuetral(if thats right?). The RPMs sink really low before spiking back up after the shift eventually happens.

I though I've read somewhere about a "known" lock-up issue and possible tranmission software upgrade available.

Just wondering if anyone has information about the fix and what I should expect to pay for it. I'm guessing only a volvo service centre will be able to update software.

Thanks for any help.

Service the transmission, get the latest software, (there is some) and reset the transmission adaptives.
Of course if the ETM is going bad, that also can contribute
Have you had the ETM software done? You DO know about the recall???
Unfortunately all this has to be done at the dealer, (you can flush it yourself) but you need the software and the adaptives reset at a Volvo dealer.

Yes, just had the ETM software done.

Thanks. What are adaptives ? Sounds like a mechanical part. Is that right?

I have a 2000 S70 with 80,000 miles and it was doing the exact same thing. I cleaned the throttle body and it runs fine now.

I cleaned the throttle bottle and it ran perfectly afterwards. Thanks for the help.
