Re: V70XC AWD 2001 Wiring harness melted
What has "blown up" the engine or something else, sounds like you need to find a decent Volvo Indie rather than main dealer and I wouldn't be happy stranded in lane 4 of the M25, leathal stretch of road - Mike
The coolant bottle had oil boiling out of it and the major jolt slowed the car from 70 to 30 in seconds the whole engine seems to have disconnected from any drive, the clicking sounded like the valves but im pretty sure the whole engine has ceased i dunno but it sounded fatal and almost killed us, the whole car shuddered then just rolled to the side of the road just missing two lorries, i don't trust the car any more, it has ghosts in it and it is a death trap, i had a crying wife a 2 yr old son to deal with, spent hours taking the car back to the garage it was fixed at rather than going on an onward journey, there was oil coming out underneath when it was put on the truck, it wrecked my whole holidays so far, i can't trust the work of the mechanics either, it seems it doesn't matter what engine is fitted the car will blow them up, a main dealer should know of all issues like this as they can't release cars that will kill people. im sick of the car i thought would be a great vehicle, very disappointed

It sounds strange. I wonder if that car had some serious overheat issues. The corrugated loom material is crap on these cars but I would assume your wires pretty much came from the same spool as anyone elses. If one wire go bad there might be an issue with the batch but having all wires go brittle in a harness is a sign of overheating or use of inappropriate cleaners or similar. (like kitchen cleaners...) One advice would be to insist having them look at the trouble codes with you and also look for a possible odometer set-back on it. Maybe it has way more miles than you think.

I agree with tribologist. I feel very sorry for the poster, but I believe this particular vehicle has been mistreated , either at a dealership, or by a previous owner. I also disagree that the loom harness trunking for the plug/coil run is inadequate. I have a MY 01 with 138 thousand miles on and this area is perfect (but I check it every time I replace the plugs). These engines properly maintained, like most Volvo models are bom-proof on cooling and water pumps, unless the thermostat fails. Over the long run that should be replaced as a routine maintenance item; cheap as chips and easy!
