Internet rumor: Volvo pulling out of US market

Post by cn90 »

I was reading this today:

Ten Brands That Will Disappear in 2014
http://247wallst.com/special-report/201 ... in-2014-2/
247wallst.com wrote:...The automobile industry also has two brands on our list. Car sales are growing in the United States, but brands with market shares under half a percent cannot compete with companies that either produce high-luxury models like Mercedes-Benz or multiline giants like General Motors. Suzuki pulled out of the American market last year and Mitsubishi and Volvo will follow soon...

BS
If the new engine and new platform roll outs down go well then this could come true but they are committed to a few more years. There has been management changes recently and they are digging in.
Warranty costs are way low and reliability rankings are climbing. The P3 models have none of the issues we have come to know all too well for the 800 and P2 platforms. Volvos of late are one of the best kept secrets.

I renamed thread title for clarity of source.

The aforementioned blog has about a 20 % success rate at calling out "brands that will be gone in 12 months". Roughly the same as a room full of monkeys with typewriters...

1 of only 6 from the Comment Section of the 247wallst.com article

Given that virtually all the brands that had been predicted to disappear in 2012 and 2013 are still around, perhaps what should disappear in 2014 is this column ...

About f***ing time. What were they thinking anyway, that Americans would only want AWD XC's?

But every time I read/hear that Volvo is moving "upmarket" it makes me want to puke. Upmarket generally means, hey you middleground wage earner, here's your car 10 years from now. Upmarket and yuppiefication have been my bane for years now.
But I'm a grumpy old man anyway.

Upmarket to me is great - it means I can buy the top of the line, loaded luxury model at 45% of new price 3 years old off-lease at 0% interest and let someone else slide down the razor blade of depreciation..

Great that the V60 is coming. But why are we being deprived of the fine, fuel sipping diesels they offer elsewhere? I'm really mad about that.
