'93 242 auto doing some crazy electrical stuff.

I have a teacher who owns a '93 auto 242. He knows nothing about this car and I have been introducting him to this site and others (no posts yet I see) and been advising him about a few things here and there. He was late to work this morning because suddenly his radio stopped working and his SRS and ABS light came on. Everything else seemed normal, but it freaked him out enough that he turned around and drove another car to work.

He was on a trip for about 10 days and drove his Volvo for the first time since returning, yesterday (no issues), but today it acted up. His battery was new a couple of years ago when he bought the car. Any ideas on what his issue might be? I understand that everything is stock.

I printed out how he could check his codes and advised him to read them tonight. We'll see what he comes back with. Can you clear these codes with the junction box too (like on an 850) or is the best way to disonnect the battery to do this?

As far as I can remember the codes are cleared through the diagnostic box.

Well, despite me giving him instructions on how to read the codes and reset them as well as trying to talk him out of it, he called AAA to tow his car in to their service department. They won't know any more (and probably less) than we do here on how to deal with these issues, unless it's something as simple as a bad battery.

Cut his salary, he obviously has too much money.

I was thinking it could be something simple like battery leads but was waiting for the codes.

I wanted to cut his salary over something completely unrelated today, and yesterday and even the day before...

Well, anyway, it was something in the cabin that stayed on and ran the battery down- that was all. It runs well again from what he told me.

Eventually I want to get a 242 for my son when he gets his license so I need to learn a bit about these cars. Would like a straight shift for him so he can at least learn to drive a car with a clutch.
