Looked over wires but could find now flaw. I'm guessing that there is a faulty connection in the plug itself and when it is plugged into the #4 injector and the wires are relaxed it does not make contact correctly. Plugged into #5 and there is a loop in the wire now applying a little pressure to the plug and it works like a champ. Will fix it soon but I took a 500 mile trip today with no issue.

So, the order of the injector plugs on the cylinders is irrelevant? I am really surprised by this.

Yeah, that doesn't *quite* smell right to me either, but remember they're not exactly in the cylinders, they're further up in the intake stream. I can see it managing to work "well enough."

That said, I'm also wondering if maybe there's a short making them all fire at once.

I did some reading; "batch fire" injector systems are quite common, work great, and are much easier to program in the ECU than a sequential pulse setup. Motronic 4.4 is batch fire, pretty sure all of the 850's are too.

Very useful to know, this simplifies the troubleshooting options on misfires, as OP figured out.
