1987 740 Cassette wont eject

Post by jacobharding »

Does anybody know how to get a cassette to eject out of this cars radio? There is no eject button and I have tried every button/combination of buttons possible and nothing works. When I look up radio in the owners manual it just takes me to a blank page and I have flipped through the whole thing and there is nothing about the radio in it...how dumb is that? Google offers nothing so I hope someone here can help before I get out a screwdriver in frustration.
I am not an expert mechanic, but I will attempt any repair. Worst case scenario is I screw it up worse than it was.

Wow. Cassettes. 1987 called, it wants its music tech back... but then, I've got an uncle who listened to 8-track well into the 90s. With a car radio on a 12VDC bench supply and speakers nailed to the walls.

Can you get a model number off the radio itself?

I found a spot in the owners manual which refers the user to the "radio users manual". That book is long gone. It is just really frustrating being that it is a simple am/fm cassette radio and it is this complicated. I don't see a model number but it is the original Volvo deck. I wasn't even trying to listen to a tape. My 8 year old son found a head cleaner in the glove box and being as fascinated as he is with "new" technology he couldn't help himself. I might just see if I can retro-fit my premium sound system CD deck from the 96 850 into it...worth a shot I guess.

Yea, just from hunting around on the interwebs, it looks like there were multiple radio options for that year. You will have to pull the radio and look at the numbers. They are usually on the top, but could be on the back as well. I have also taken radios apart and manually removed cassettes. It involves removing the top plate, then looking for the motor that ejects the tape cassette. just turn the cog, and it should slowly start coming out.
