Seen the real old timers use water (70's & 80's). They also had all the tools and did rebuild the upper and lower end of the motors in the shops so they have first hand experience.

Yeah, back then you could step into the engine compartment with a buddy and heave it out by hand. I've been that deep in a 79 MGB and some early 90s Honda my neighbor had. Both were like my toddler's Duplo set compared to a B5254T.
Shouldn't water be a problem for a catalytic converter as well? Surely exhaust gas temps are sufficient to ionize the water and produce O2 and H2. Shouldn't that piss off the converter, or at least overheat it?

Better a Cool CAT and a confused Compu than a Hot one melting the Honey(comb). The water is gone right quick while the Foam is left to burn. Water, but as indicated above using the Berryman method would be best as the water can Hydro and give your engine the Bends if not careful.kcodyjr wrote:

Guys, I love the spirited discussion, but I still don't know EXACTLY how to get this into the intake on the 2.5t. I've never used it before, and I for sure won't, unless I know precisely which hose to put this stuff into.

Sorry Jabber5. I thought after the all that you would pass on using the SeaFoam. Your car is too new in my opinion to use it unless it has been neglected. If you must I just pore the entire thing into the tank but I can't in good conscience recommend that stuff through the Vacuum lines especially if you foul the CAT and codes start to pop up. Sorry.Jabber5 wrote:

That's the thing...I've had the car since day one and have always taken care of it..regular oil changes, filter changes, etc. For the past 3 years I've changed the oil myself every 5,000 miles. Yet, I still have significant oil consumption - 1qt every 1000-1500 miles. There's no puddles of oil anywhere nor smoke out of the exhaust. Maybe I will pass on the Seafoam...I bought three cans so maybe will just put in the the tank and crankcase.

Take a look at this link and change your oil. It made a huge difference for MVS member "mattman" in terms of consumption besides the smoke. You may not have smoke yet as your CAT is still healthy, like a smoker to the lungs till later.

I know I may be going against the tide on the SeaFoam but perhaps it is just too obvious for me. I suppose it will not do much harm nor for the car if you put it in the tank seeing from the Video that it almost did no cleaning on the Valve soaking for 3 days.Jabber5 wrote:

I use a SeaFoam in my gs tank for every fill up. I can't say that I notice a particular difference, but I'm hoping it's keeping my fuel injectors clean and clear

I am not surprised that you didn't noticed a difference. From the information in the video links in my previous posts you should not notice any difference. The only time you would notice anything is when you pull it into the intake. Due to it's composition it just creates smoke as it does not burn well but does put up a big show when the motor is coughing it out.VolvoLover95 wrote:

Excerpts from the Bob Is The Oil Guy link below:
“Sorry, I'm not a fan of adding Seafoam to the gas tank as a cleaner in fuel injector systems. From previous discussions here, Seafoam is basically lite mineral oil, naptha & isopropyl alcohol…”
****
“Using seafoam through a vacuum line is far superior in cleaning intake valves and combustion chambers than Techron or Regane through the fuel tank. Seafoam through the PCV system or similar vacuum line works two ways:
#1 Thermal Shock. The cold seafoam hitting the hot carbon causes it to quickly contract and release it's kung fu grip on the metal.
#2 Solvency....do I have to explain it?”
****
“Most injector units today are self cleaning. Change the fuel filter instead. DarkDan's advice is 100% correct again. Add SeaFoam through vac line to decarbonize combustion chambers.

That’s very expensive de-carbonizing as water has always been used for that purpose. Again, SeaFoam does not burn or clean well that is why the car is running so rough or choking on it if you will.
