whats your opinion

A mid-size luxury crossover SUV, the Volvo XC90 made its debut in 2002 at the Detroit Motor Show. Recognized for its safety, practicality, and comfort, the XC90 is a popular vehicle around the world. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America). P2 platform.

Does it come with AWD in the 2.5T? Without it, it's a school bus.

If not, what engine with AWD sucks least?

Not that there's anything wrong with a Volvo being a school bus, I just don't see the point of the extra height without the other truck-like attributes. An XC70 makes for just as good a ferry, and burns a little less coal. Less roll-prone, too.

EDIT: But, if you insist, next time I'm out slumming at the stealerships, I'll give one a try.

Yes, the 2.5T come FWD or AWD.
I do not have use for SUV's myself but they are a popular vehicle.
The 2.5T is no race car but for that class of vehicle it is competitive.
The 2.5T seems a more willing powerplant than the 3.2 in that vehicle. 3.2 makes more power but the torque is less at low revs so it has to be prodded more to get any oomph from a stop.

My wife drives her '05 xc90 2.5/awd all over the place and loves it. It has plenty of power for highway driving with the turbo giving it the low end to get out of its own way.

Only negatives are poor gas mileage and the thing chews up a set of tires in less than 30k miles.

Is chewing through tires an AWD trait or an XC90 trait?

I have an 03 2.5 awd and i love it. there's plenty of power from that little engine. i get around 21 mpg as well. I just turned 200,000 miles last thursday. i got it with 140,000. I plan to get another one if this one should even die. There are quirks with the car though, like the factory radio/cd player. its not easy to replace with an aftermarket if something happens to the factory unit and you don't have or want to spend $500 for a new one and $200 more to program it to the car. and you have to pay close attention to the sunroof drains and any other drains that happen to pass through the inside of the car because when they clog they tend to fill the floor pans with water. other than that they are great cars. Oh and make sure the awd works, ask to put the car on a lift and see all 4 tires spin. It is rather expensive to fix if it doesn't work depending on the issue.

In my opinion the T5...AKA the 2.5T is the most reliable package of all the XC 90's. They all have their issues but that package has the least issues of all that I have worked on.

Not surprised, really; if the apocalypse comes, all that'll be left is cockroaches and 2.5T Volvos.

How do people feel about the V8? I've been eyeballing a 2008 S80 V8 AWD, looks like it has the executive package seats in it too. A V8 would make more sense to me in an SUV, too, surprisingly adequate 2.5T or not.
