The V8s are reported as being pretty awesome. Transmissions are a 6 speed and the massive torque of the engine is more than enough to cope with the weight of the car.

It's no secret that The Creators original intention for the internal combustion engine is that it would be of an inline design. The V design came only after sin and corruption entered the world.
In all seriousness though, after having owned many of both from multiple manufacturers I am fairly hellbent on owning only I's from here out.

Whoever coined the term "Two heads are better than one" obviously had a hired mechanic.
I am not an expert mechanic, but I will attempt any repair. Worst case scenario is I screw it up worse than it was.

So as to avoid confusion GM transmissions were ONLY fitted to the early T6 versions (from 2003 until 2006) until 2007 as it was the only transmission at the time that Volvo could source that would fit in a transverse six (with B6294T 2.8L ) configuration.

All other engine combinations have the AW 55-50SN (on 2.5Ts) or the AW-TF80SC (on 3.2s and V8s)

What I can't figure out is why they didn't bolt a tiny turbo onto the 3.2 just like they did with the first B5254T.

All else being equal, I certainly would rather have an I6 than any other topology.

The short I6 is turbo'd in S80, XC70, S60, and XC60 models (T6's). For some reason Volvo never fitted the T6 short I6 powerplant to XC90's.

What's short about the 3.2 six Jimmy that they called it "short" Is it shorter than the older B6294 and B6284s?

2.5T is a great engine, but I would stand in line to buy one with over 100K just because you couldn't be sure how the turbo was treated and that matters. I've got a 2008 3.2 and it has tons of power. Its a crossover SUV, it's not a 3/4 ton truck...the V8 is nice but likely overkill unless you are towing or always want to floor it going up a mountain. As long as you avoid the T6, you really should be looking to find one that has been treated well and it will treat you well. XC90's are nice, fun and safe...what a rare combo.
