The rocker arm in my shifter broke, allowing the shifter to swing freely between D and Manual (Geartronic transmission).I've gotten the trim plate off and removed the shifter knob and boot. I'm stopped and stumped at removing the shifter stop plate (see photo). I see that the u-shaped tabs are part of the underlying frame and suspect that the top should pop off, but I can't get it free. I've tried spreading the tabs with small screwdrivers, while pushing and pulling, but nothing budges. I've lubed the points penetrating oil, but nothing budges. I hate to take it to the shop for a $10 part, but I'm at my wit's end. See attached pic, which I borrowed from a similar thread with no answer. Does it come up, back, out or what?
There's a similar thread regarding the same issue in an S60, but no clear answer on how to get the plate up.

- Place the shift in "D"
- The horseshoe like tab at each corner needs a drop of lube, use engine oil, then warm up each tab a little with hair dryer.
- Use a trim tool to pry the rectangle box from below, starting at driver-side front tab, passenger-side front, then the PS rear, and DS rear.
- lift it straight up, protect connected wires
- rotate the rectangle box clockwise in a manner of turning a lid on a jar, and set it on driver-side.
- you can now access the rocker.
- pay close attention when seating each spring.
