Windscreen Wiper Motor Noise

Post by Derek123 »

Hi,
My father has a 2002 V70 and when it was frosty a while back, started his engine and the wipers were half way through a cycle. Unfortunately the wipers had stuck to screen. Ever since then they are extremely noisy. It's a very loud whir. Doesn't sound rough like a failing bearing.
Any ideas what I can check?
Thanks,

DGM

It can be the motor but generally it is the wiper linkage. The shafts where wipers attached get jammed over time. It needs to be disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and readjusted.

See in this video what to do;

In the mean time you could squirt a little bit of WD-40 (or the like) on the shafts to get it going.

:)

+1

Being he turned the wipers on while they were frozen to the windshield, the tension stretched it all out.
