1998 S90 timing belt break: long-term effects?

Post by dmg4 »

I'm looking at a 1998 Volvo S90 whose timing belt broke at 100,000 miles. A Volvo dealership replaced the cylinder head. All seems in order. It sounds good. Is there any reason to fear residual damage to the lower half of the engine? What should I look for?
Frequently wrong, never in doubt.

Do you have receipts from work done? That would tell you what else if anything was checked and/or repaired. But usually the head will take care of it. How many miles has it been since work was done? If you don't have paperwork you could go to dealer with V.I.N.# and get the records. Verification is a must for me. Check coolant tank for any signs of oil and check engine oil for signs of coolant which will look like a milkshake. Look on bottom of oil filler cap also for sigs of this as well as the dipstick.
