Hi,
Local Volvo shop says I need to replace ETM.
Car has 120k miles & is out of warranty.
Having done the PVC replacement, I feel confident that I can unbolt the old ETM and install a new one; however the shop mentioned about programming the new ETM. That intimidates me. They want $800 to do the job.
Does anybody have any advice? I don't have DICE/VIDA to do any programming.
I am experiencing the messages: REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE and ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED...
Thanks for your help.
Peter

By '05 the S80 is using the Bosch ETA not ETM by Magnetti.
They sell for around $220 and all you require is a new gasket. Part number 0280 750 131
Use the Amazon link above.
To adapt them start the car and allow the car to find the correct idle speed. This takes around 2 minutes.
EDIT: Correction To adapt place ignition in Pos II for 40 secs and allow ETA to calibrate

I was thinking about bifuel atmo engine. They have ETM Magnetti. And also assumed that $800 is too much for Bosch ETM.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer

There is absolutely no need for the Xemodex unit because this is NOT an ETM by Magnetti; it is a Bosch ETA which doesn't suffer from prematurely worn films.
Let's try not to confuse the OP
XeModex does have an improved contactless Bosch ETA on its site however these rarely fail, DON'T require programming and are cheap to buy new.

Hi,
I just finished replacing ETA....job went fine & I included new gasket as well.
After letting it sit w key @ pos 2 for 1 minute....I tried to start it but got nothing but click ...no cranking, just click...
Any ideas?
Thanks
Peter

Car should crank ovwr easily. Check battery voltage. These P2 series cars don't like being off the road for more than a week. Batteries seem to go flat faster than you can say deep fried chicken.
