2000 v70 SE 160K miles...looking at spark plug replacement as response at tip-in is beginning to get sluggish. Car is relatively new to me...this is the first tune up I've done on it.
Currently has Volvo branded "made in France: 9146775 plugs. Should I just go back to them? I have had great experiences with NGK Iridium in a BMW and terrible experiences with Bosch plug in general. Opinions? I'm sure there are plenty. Please respond in the space below.
Thanks

Go with the long-life double-platinum OEM (8692071) or its non-branded version, the Bosch FR7DPP+ from Autozone or eEuro and fugetaboutit.
Should be good out of the box, but verify gap for either before installation (.7-.75mm, .028-.030") carefully and lightly with a feeler blade before installation without disturbing electrode tip, do NOT adjust, return.
All others vary in design and or are lesser plugs in terms of longevity, including Bosch coppers (and that's according to Bosch themselves, start on page 16). They might work, but just don't hold up as long due to metallurgical differences.

Had these in my 98 S70 T5 since Mar 2013. NGK Iridium IX - 6418 - BKR6EIX. Car seems to be doing fine still. Had Copper previously and felt there was degradation after 1 year so got rid of them.
Blessings,
BKM

I always use OEM Volvo plugs. What does the owners manual say?

Yes and no,
In the 1990's, Iridium didn't exist. So Volvo recommended copper etc. b/c that was the only thing available then. Fast forward many years later, virtually all new cars leaving showrooms have Iridium sprak plugs.
Right now I am using Bosch or NGK copper ($2/each).
But in my 1998 BMW 528i, I use BKR6EIX as mentioned by BKM98 S70 T5.
The BMW engine runs very smooth on Iridium, no hiccups whatsoever.
So, for the next spark plug change, I might switch to BKR6EIX.

cn90 BKR6EIX for the S70? Are the Iridium plugs the ones with the really tiny electrodes?

If you want the Volvo plug at a non-Volvo price, see my post above. They're a platinum-iridium alloy, as are "iridium" plugs which just have a greater percentage of iridium in the alloy.rmmagow wrote:cn90 BKR6EIX for the S70? Are the Iridium plugs the ones with the really tiny electrodes?
