1994 850 NonTurbo Tracs Switch Light lit, drains battery.

Post by Hanzi »

Hello, anyone see this before? 1994 850 non-turbo.
Battery drains overnight with switch in off position. The small orange light in the TRACS Switch stays lit, (Not the TRACS dash light) with key off and out of the switch. Replaced ignition switch, same conditions. Replaced Tracs Switch, same conditions.
I am now seeing if the drain continues without a Tracs switch installed.
I may be able to swap abs module, would that be anybody's next guess?

Thanks.

The early ABS modules aren't terribly prone to having problems but anything can go bad. Before you change out the ABS parts unplug the module and see if the problem goes away. If it does then chances are the module is bad but if it doesn't I would suspect a wiring problem. With the latter all you can do is trace the wires and look for chaffed insulation or other signs of things like the line getting tapped for a stereo or something.

Do you get any error codes from port A-3?

So... With original module in place, the OBD would not show codes. It did not give me an all clear (1-1-1), it just wouldn't show anything. It would just very dimly glow and no matter what I did with the button it would stay with that dim glow.

I assumed my problem was obviously the module. I unhooked the control module and plugged in a module from a 96 850.

Heres what happens with that plugged in (not bolted down):

Dash Lights on: ABS, Tracs, Check Engine, Up shift arrow- if I press winter on the trans switch, even if in park.
1) I get codes for sensors 2-1-4,2-1-1,3-1-3
2) I get a 4-4-4, no power at hydraulic modulator.
3) I got a new check engine code 2-4-1 for egr system flow fault.

I do not know if it has cleared my battery drain issue yet. I did notice that my seat heaters will stay lit with the switch on, I do not know if the heaters are actually running in that condition...

It is possible that all those codes are legit, and I will start working through the sensors as soon as the weather gets better- unless some one recognizes these symptoms as something else.

Thanks again.

Check grounds on engine and dash wiring. Dimly glowing things that don't respond to controls is a classic case of either

Lucas electrical products
Bad grounds

Get the wiring diagram respecting copyright please, then find every ground wire and check, clean, polish, re tighten.
