S60 glove box question

Post by ooster »

2002 S60 -

The glove box damper piston is there, with the lower end attached to the box, but the top part is loose. I can slip the socket part of the piston onto the ball end of the frame, but it doesn't "snap" on so it just slips right off. Am I missing some sort of clip that locks the socket on to the ball? Or is the socket part just worn out? What keeps it locked on there?

Thanks

Vadis doesn't show a clip for that part, indeed says to push it onto the ball.

Have you tried wrapping some tape around the ball to pack it out?

Closer examination shows that inside the socket there are four small clips that secure the socket to the ball. On my damper socket two of the four clips are broken off. So it looks like I'll be ordering a new damper.

In order to replace the damper it will require that the glove box door be removed.

Can anyone supply instructions on how to remove the door?

Thanks!

Thanks Bill!

Got the box down and removed te strut. It's probably a dealer order part, and I doon't want to wait, so I drilled out a hole below the socket and used a couple of zip-ties to secure it to te ball post. Seems to work fine.

Thanks again.
