1999 S70 awd TRACS, SRS, ABS lights then won't rev

Post by easytargetrn »

New to us but well maintained. Had the PS pump replaced yesterday then on the way home TRACS, SRS, ABS lights came on and the car started feeling like it was missing then would not rev at all.
Towed home, charged overnight, started without problem, no warning lights, then after 10 minutes same issues. Turned off and tried to restart but the battery was drained. Put a spare battery in, started fine but repeat performance.
My thought was alternator but there was no battery light.
Ran OBD: no codes.
Mechanic thinks ground wire but said have it towed back on my dime. Alternator is less than 1 yr old, battery is new. No issues prior to PS pump repair. Check the connectors on the alt as best I could. Can someone guide me to the associated ground wires or other wires that I should check?
Thanks!

I have this exact car. On the light side...it sounds like when someone replaced the pump, they did not reconnect or damaged something. On the dark side...You need to have this car's codes read. There are a multiple of potential issues with all these lights going on at the same time from ABS, Engine and TCM modules. My initial guess...whoever did the pump work simply did not reconnect something. Was it a Volvo Dealer? Either way, bring it back to the person who did the pump...if you did not do it yourself.

Thanks, Guessing these codes will be Volvo specific, not OBD and it produced no codes when I scanned it myself.
We're trying to work out getting it back to the shop now, but its snowing sideways here in WNY.

That's low voltage for sure......but where. There's only two things he could have touched. The alternator and the battery. Check the one little lead that plugs into the alternator and retighten the connecitons on the battery.

I have had the alternator go out on these cars and the battery light does not light! I had a 2000 V70R and noticed the lights were dim. Plugged in my code reader and looked at the voltage... Only 10.9V... Replaced the alternator and all was well again but the battery light never illuminated. I know it worked because turning the key to 'on' but not starting the car would illuminate it.
